Rain, rain, go away!

Needless to say, we are getting tired of all the rain. Last year we had such a drought, and this year we've had more rain than we can handle. Our front yard is very low due to flawed excavation when the house was built. To remedy the problem, we've had two French drains installed, which empty into the street. Very rarely, maybe six times in the 23 years we've lived here, we have had so much rain in such a short time that the water rushing down the street has been above the tops of the curbs. Well, since our drain outlets are situated in the curbs, there is nowhere for the excess water in the yard to drain, and it backs up toward the house, seeping in under the window seat in the dining room. Three of the six occasions this has happened have been in the past month, and I am getting very weary of dealing with wet dining room carpet. Fortunately, a friend advised me to use my steam cleaning machine to suck up the excess water, which has helped a lot. That and six fans -- ceiling, oscillating, and stationary. I know I'm whining because of the inconvenience, but we've really been blessed compared to others in the area who have had devastating losses. This probably won't happen again for another 100 years. It's very rare for Texas to have rain several times a day for three solid weeks. Maybe I missed the memo that said we traded places with the Pacific Northwest.
